I was QRV for the first 15 minutes, but had to leave for a funeral for
one of my former law partners. I will post the score to 3830 tonight.
This Week's Contests:
1. Phone Fray. 0230-0300Z Wed (Tuesday night local date). 15M - 160M
SSB. 100W maximum power. Exchange: Name + SPC for North America and
only Name for others. Multipliers count per band. Thsi should be real
good practice for NAQP SSB coming up. Note that there is no QSY rule.
2. CWOps Club CWT Mini Tests. Every Wednesday. Three separate one-hour
mini tests. 1300Z, 1900Z, and 0300Z (Thursday UTC date). 160-10M CW.
Exchange: Name + CWT# or SPC. Look around 028 to 040 kHz on each band
plus up from 1815 kHz.
3. QRP Fox Hunt. Thursday night local date. 0100-0230Z Friday UTC
date. Two QRP Foxes will be hiding between 14050 and 14070 kHz. Work
only the two foxes. Exchange: RST, SPC, Name, Power. Maximum power
5W. Do not spot the foxes' frequencies. Foxes this wee are K4BAI,
JOHN, GA and N1IX, DAVE, NH. The band can be long and should be good
from here to NH. Last month, when I was a fox the first time, we also
had short skip and I was able to work other stations in GA and AL.
4. NCCC RTTY Sprint Practice. 0145Z to 0215Z Friday UTC date (Thursday
night local date). 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M RTTY. 100W maximum power. One
kHz QSY rule. Exchange: both calls, #, name, SPC. Look around 080 kHz
and up from 1805 kHz. Same band dupes OK after one intervening QSO.
5. NCCC NS Sprint Ladder. 0230Z to 0300Z Friday UTC date (Thursday
night local date). 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M CW. 100W maximum power. One
kHz QSY rule. Exchange: both calls, #, name, SPC. Look around 040 kHz
and up from 1815 kHz. No same band duplicates permitted.
6. Worked All Europe DX Contest, CW. 48 hours of Sat/Sun UTC. 80-10M
CW. 36 hours maximum for single ops and off times must be at least one
hour. You may send up to 10 QTC to each European. QTC consists of
call, time, serial # received from other stations. Each QTC may be sent
only once. Even if you don't send QTC, this is a fun contest and this
year it is one of the qualifying contests for WRTC 2018, so there should
be a lot of activity.
7. Straight Key Century Club Week End Sprintathon (WES). 12Z Sat to
24Z Sun with a maximum of 24 hours. 160-6M CW. Exchange: RST + SPC +
Name + SKCC# or "NONE." Use mechanical key only. This month there are
extra points for working hams using a Cootie or Sideswiper key. They
should identify themselves by sending Name/co. Each QSO with a /co
station gives you 15 bonus points and two /cos working each other gives
them 30 bonus points each. Cooties are hard to send with and are often
hard to copy. Any real old timers here will remember W4KLT from Augusta
with his sideswiper. That was not hard to copy, but was a joy to copy
as Mal was an artist with his.
8. MD-DC QSO Party. 16Z Sat to 04Z Sun; 16Z to 24Z Sun. 160 - 432
CW, Ph, Dig. Exchange: Class + SPC or MD county or DC. Classes are:
STD (standard), MOBile, CLUB and QRP. So most of us would be STD.
9. 50 mHz "Fall" Sprint. 2300Z Sat to 0300Z Sun. 6M any mode.
Exchange: 4 character grid square. This will be fun if only the band
will be open. There have been reports of openings late last week.
10. NAQCC Sprint. Tuesday of next week. 0030Z to 0230Z Wednesday UTC
date. 20, 40, 80M CW. 5W maximum power. Exchange: RST, SPC, NAQCC#
or Power. Multiply score by 2 for hand key and by 1 1/2 for bug. This
is a very popular QRP Sprint and there will be a lot of activity.
Listings are separately by type of antenna (SWA = simple wire antenna,
GAIN = multi element gain antennas) and type of key. You can get a
NAQCC number for free on a link from their web site. Same for SKCC.
11. Next Tuesday. Phone Fray. See #1 above.
12. Next Wednesday. CWTs. See #2 above.
Hope everyone has a nice week and weekend. 73, John, K4BAI.
