This Week's Contests:
1. 80M QRP CW Fox Hunt. Thursday night local date. 0200-0330Z Friday.
Two QRP foxes will be hiding between 3550 and 3570 kHz. They are
WX2S, Steve, NJ and AC7A, Tom, AZ. Exchange: RST, SPC, Name, Power.
Work only the two foxes. After this hunt, the QRP Fox Hunts will take
two weeks off for Christmas and New Years.
2. NCCC RTTY Sprint Practice. 0145-0215Z Friday (Thurs night local
time). 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M RTTY. 100W maximum power. 1/1 kHz QSY
rule. Exchange: both calls, #, name, SPC. Look around 080 kHz on each
band plus up from 1805 kHz. Same band dupes OK after one intervening QSO.
3. NCCC NS CW Sprint Practice. 0230-0259Z Friday (Thurs night local
time). 20, 40, 80, 160m cw. 100W maximum power. 1/1 kHz QSY rule.
Exchange: both calls, #, name, SPC. Look around 040 kHz and up from
1815 kHz. No same band dupes permitted.
4. OK (Czech Republic) DX RTTY Contest. 24 hours of Saturday UTC.
80-10M RTTY. Exchange: RST + CQ Zone. Work everyone.
5. RAC (Radio Amateurs of Canada) Winter Contest. 24 hours of Saturday
UTC. 160-2M CW, Phone. Exchange: RS(T) + serial # or VE province or
territory. Work everyone.
6. Croatian CW Contest. 1400Z Sat to 1400Z Sun. 160-10M CW.
Exchange: RST + serial #. Work everyone.
These two contests conflict with each other and each turns out a lot of
participants. Since the exchange except for Canadian stations is RST +
serial #, I usually consider that every serial number QSO counts for
each contest. I prepare a single log and cut off the log to be
submitted to RAC at 2400Z Sat. For the 9A CW Contest, I delete all the
QSOs before 1400Z Sat and also delete all the VE QSOs unless one happens
to give me a serial number and, of course, delete all phone QSOs.
7. ARRL Rookie Round Up (CW). 1800-2359Z Sunday. 80-6M CW. 100W
maximum power. Rookies are any first licensed in 2013, 2014, or 2015.
Exchange: Name + 2 digit year first licensed + SPC or XE area. We
non-rookies should try to identify and work any rookies only.
8. Flying Pigs QRP CW Club December Run for the Bacon. 0200-0400Z
Monday (Sunday night local date). 160-10M CW. 5W maximum power.
Exchange: RST + SPC + FP# or power.
9. December Straight Key Century Club Weekday Sprint. 0000-0200Z Wed
(Tuesday night local date). 160-10M CW. Use a mechanical key only.
Exchange: RST + SPC + Name + SKCC# or "NONE." W4KRN, Karen in VA, is
the bonus station this month.
10. Phone Fray. Every Tuesday night. 0230-0300Z Wed. 15, 20, 40, 80,
160M SSB. 100W maximum power. Exchange: Name + SPC. 15 and 20M have
usually been dead by this hour, but there is lot of phone contest
practice activity in this one on 40M and down.
11. CWOps Club CWT Mini Tests. Every Wednesday. Three separate one-hour
mini tests. 1300Z, 1900Z and 0300Z (Thursday UTC date). 160-10M CW.
Exchange: Name + CWOps # or SPC. (Some recent graduates of the CW
Academy may send "CWA" instead of # or SPC. Look around 025 to 040 kHz
on each band. Work everyone.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend and holiday season. The Saturday after
Christmas should bring the annual Stew Perry Top Band Distance Challenge
on 160M CW. Also, don't forget the ARRL Straight Key night on Janaury 1
UTC date.
73, John, K4BAI.
