Gary,
Thanks for the report.
"At the half," I didn't think I would break the 300 Q barrier for the
weekend. By the time I quit Friday night, I was 100 Qs behind last year's
effort and I had put in one more hour. My best hour Friday was at the
start, 2200 - 2300 with about 45 Qs. It went downhill fast after that. I
really struggled to keep the "last 10" rate meter at 20 the rest of the
night. GA and MS had that distinct muddy DX quality signal. Not fun.
Decided to re-trench, reload, sleep, and hope for better conditions
Saturday; I shut down at 0834 with 177 Qs.
Either I figured out how to filter the crud or it went away because Saturday
was much better. Final count was 496 x 71 for a score of 71710 (484 x 56 @
57K last year). I missed the goal of 75K, but considering Friday's
conditions I was happy. I earned a 98% WAS-160 - missed AK, but was
first-call to the KH6. Like most low power SECCrs, not much for DX - a VP5,
couple of ZFs, 2 South America (CO & YV) and a smattering of VE. VE 4, 5, &
6 musta been out ice fishing. Thought I heard a TC calling me, but gone as
fast I heard it.
Weird things:
Decided to make some coffee to keep me going Saturday night. Sometimes I
like to throw in some hot choclate mix to smooth the coffee out. Didn't
have any home-made mix so I reached in the cupboard for a foil pack. Threw
it in there and mixed it up. Took a sip and thought 'man this stuff is
pretty creamy on top.' Took another sip and realized the mix was capacino.
- Bleh!!!
Also, did you know that if you closed your eyes and "concentrated" at about
5am local, you can here real coversations in the CW?? Time to pull the
plug!!
Oh well. Overall, great fun. Trying to work WAS was a real motivator to
keep going.
Everyone have a great and joyous holiday season!

I'm curious to hear your results...you had a great signal and I heard
you CQing a couple times with many callers!
I appears that the new antenna was working well.
