I had several requests to post the results of my querry on how to
boot up trlog from windows, here's the list of most of the
response's that I recived.
>From Alan, W6RCL,
Ken -- please forgive if this is not what you had in mind. But a
lot of people
who grew up with WINDOWS are not familiar with some simple dos
routines which
might make life easier.
You could write a batch file and save it to your C:\ drive.
Perhaps you would name the file "TR.bat" so that after you boot
to dos, you type
the letters TR and hit enter and the batch file loads the program
for you. If
you are unfamiliar with dos, you can write the batch file in any
text writer,
and then when you are ready to save it, make sure you save
directly to the
c: -drive (i.e., not in a program directory or sub-directory).
The batch file should include the basic steps that you are now
using to launch
TR from dos.
It might look something like this:
c:\windows cd\
cd\trlog
[name of the .exe file on this line]
cd\windows
win
(((((This will run TR for you, and then when it exits TR it will
automatically
load Windows---assuming the letters ''win'' are the ones which
launch windows
for you)))))
I put a shortcut on my windows desktop to unload windows and
accept dos
commands. So, to load contesting programs in dos, all I have to
do is click the
icon, wait til dos loads, then type tr and hit enter.
Good luck. And if this is not what you had in mind, please
accept my apologies.
>From Fran Flynn
Put it in autoexec.bat, if you don't have one then you can
create one. Windows 98 doesn't need an autoexec, but if it
finds one it will work with it just like dos. If you do this
TR will run in DOS first when you boot, after you quit TR it'll
run windows. If you want to disable windows for a while, edit
the msdos.sys, you have to change the attributes, it's hidden.
Change the line bootgui=1 to bootgui=0, then it runs like an old
Dos machine. Save a copy of the old file under a different name
just for safety.
put something like this in the autoexec.bat:
cd c:\log\caqso (if you're running california qso party)
tr.exe
cd\ (then it'll take you back to root when you quit)
>From Gilbert Baron
Just make a shortcut to a batch file with those commands ad
execute it. It
will switch to a dos window and run it or you can set the
shortcut
properties to full screen.
This applies ONLY to Windows 95 or 98 or 98se, NOT to Millennium
Edition
which does not allow real dos UNLESS you patch the system files
or set up a
real dos as a dual boot.
Here is a link to the patch.

>From Richard,
Find the TRLOG executable file in windows explorer and drag it
onto the
windows desktop. You can then start TRLog by double clicking on
the icon on
the desktop. This will run TRLog in a window.
If, instead, you want it to run under DOS, you need to create a
program
information file (PIF). Find out how to use these using the
windows START
menu, selecting HELP and typing PIF.

This are 2 shortcuts, you can copy and paste them to your desktop
