My new Pegasus operates with an external tuner just fine. And,
yes, I believe that any SWR under 2:1 ought to be good enough,
but I keep my system below 1.5 with the tuner, consider:
With 100 watts forward power and,
VSWR.......Watts Reflected to the Rig
1.22......................1 watt( or 1% power refl.)
1.33......................2 watts
1.42......................3 watts
1.50......................4 watts
1.58......................5 watts( or 5% pwr refl.)
1.92(2:1)...............10 watts
2.62.......................20 watts (20% pwr. reflected)
and so on.
Or, about 10% of your forward power is reflected back in
an antenna/feed system operating at about 2:1 SWR.
That's a problem at a kilowatt, but ought not to be at 100 watts.
But, as George points out, maybe with the Pegasus it
might be, don't know as I keep the SWR well down with
the external tuner.
