Pleased you came to a successful conclusion to the chirp problem. Anyhow,
the 1.02 works for me, even though Paul says he can hear a slight chirp. I
checked several methods, my 120 meg scope via an RF take-off; using the FM
button so there is no CW audio heard from the OMNI, monitored by my Paragon
II, etc. I cannot hear any chirp. Wish you the best, Joe, and hope we can
hear each other in a CW QSO soon. Not all OMNI 6+ have identical keying
characteristics, so many probably have no sign of a slight chirp whereas
other do.
There was no mention of a "myth" when the tech at T-T told me the 1.02 was
better than the 1.03. He was right in my case. I assume those who say they
can hear a chirp do not have their AVC turned off. and the RF turned down
somewhat.

Well the matter of alleged chirp in my OMNI VI+ has finally reached a
happy ending. You may be interested in my assessment of the whole matter.
I hope I will not offend anyone, however I am not sure that there ever was
a chirp problem. I have installed the Logic Firmware Version 1.02. A local
station who had also listened to the version 1.03 said he could tell not
difference. More than one station listened to my cw with the 1.03 chip
installed and said the tone was perfect, and these are seasoned CW op whom
I respect. After installing the 1.02 chip I listened to my signal over the
internet as received in Salt Lake City. The tone was perfect in my opinion
and therefore I am keeping the 1.02 chip in the radio. Maybe one of these
days I will put the 1.03 back in and compare the two. But for now, being
very satisfied with my OMNI VI+, I am just going to enjoy using it.
I know that some of you, perhaps many of you, think there is a problem
with chirp in the OMNI VI+. I respect your opinion, but there are some
very respectable hams out there who do not agree. I contacted Ten Tec and
the person I talked to called it the OMNI VI chirp myth.
As I said, I respect the opinion of all, but more than that I appreciate
all of your comments. They were all helpful.
