Thanks to all who have responded to me that Gary's radio was too high =
priced. I'm not so sure that it really is. The Paragon even a 7year old =
one is still an excellent performing radio. TenTec gets $1275 for a used =
unit that they have checked and gone through (no accessories). =
Independent dealers resell the radios for $1000 to $1100 (no =
accessories). To sell a personal radio you will not get the same as a =
dealer that will warrantee the equipment but to say that the value of =
these radios is $750 to $800 with accessories is ludicrous. I believe =
TenTec gives $750 for Trade in (Radio Alone). Typically accessories are =
about $50 each if sold separately. Filters maybe closer to $60 on the =
used market. This makes the actual cost a rig such as Gary's about $800 =
for the bare bones radio. In my book that is a bargain for mint 7yr old =
paragon. Thats $250-425 less than dealers prices. Maybe we hams lose =
ourselves in trying to find the ultimate bargain on radio gear. That =
"Steal" that we can brag about for years.

One last thought before I get off my soapbox. In my opinion the TenTec =
paragon with a giehl chip is a superior radio to the infamous Kenwood =
TS-940. I have owned 3-940's and two Paragons. I would chose a Paragon =
any day.
Thanks & 73
