Geoff, you know this technology better than I do, but IMO, you can't now and
perhaps never will be able to do all the work in a PC because the amount of
and speed of data needing processing is way beyond that which a PC can
handle.
In addition to the ADC,s we would need a lot of FPGA's in the PC as well,
and then the cost of the PC would be very high.
I'm interested in what's gonna happen in my lifetime, not in the distant
future.
The ham transceiver world is transitioning and will eventually be totally
different than what we know today.
If we don't make the transition in small baby steps, we may find ourselves
in a position where eventually one giant leap is necessary, and then it will
be too late to learn.

Until someone locates high quality HF analog to digital converters, puts
them in a PC and develops DSP software that is far better than anything on
the market and charges appropriately. :-)
