I agree with Dan. I have had my 811H for almost 3 years. I bought it used at Dayton and use it with my Omni VI. I use the tune button on the Omni and tune it in low power.(Approx 15 to 20 watts). I can get over 600 watts out with about 50 watts of drive. It will run 800 watts, but I rarely go over the 600. I use it on CW and SSB.

Its been a good amp and I have not changed any tubes.

Could be I have been lucky but I have never had problems with my Ameritron
AL-811.
I run mine off an OMNI V.
I use the tune key to tune the amp.
I have had the amp for 8 years and bought it used.
It still has the tubes it came with.
I think the key is to follow the directions in the manual.
Tune in very low power.
Once tuned advance power in the OMNI V to give the amp about 60 watts.
Do not try to exceed the design limits of the amp.
All in all it is a good amp.
