That is an interesting statistic, but I don't think it is representative of
the number of active hams.
I bet I know more hams who don't contest than I do contesters.
And I'm an active contester.
Sure, field day draws out many non-contesters, but I have to believe there
are a lot more active hams than 45,000.
Heck, when I call CQ on 7268, at least that many people tell me the
frequency is in use!
Anyway, I never believe a statistic unless I have forged it myself!
