Ok, u r on the Ten Tec reflector so expect good words abt
them. Here is my list in order of best to lesser:
OMNI ONE used.... best buy in ham radio today.
Elecraft K3... the options really run up the $$$.
Yaesu FT-1000MP used, next and cheaper.
FT-1000MP Mark 5 used with new roofing filter.
Pro 3 used, but it wears out fast, so watch the used market.
FT-2000 new may be too much $$$ but very very feature rich.
Any new NEW Ten-Tec due to big improvements over earlier models.
FT-950 and especially FT-450 (note this is Yaesu, not Kenwood)
are good buys and the FT-450 is a LOT of radio for the price.
ICOM 746 Pro (new only) is not too bad for what it is.
MUCH LESSER radios:
NO to the TS-2000 and
Any other Kenwood, and I mean it.
Why buy an old Icom or TS-950 when OMNI 1 is better?
The FT-1000D is great but no computer control possible.
Spend until it hurts because you deserve to have a
superior radio for the long haul. U will be so glad
u went up a little more, as per above, over the years
