If your Carolina Windom is about 135 feet long, It is NOT going to have 10
dB of gain on 60m over a dipole! Beware of manufacturers claims, usually
they are quoting for 10m and over isotropic source, and any other way they
can bend physics to get inflated gain numbers!
Even a 3 element beam only has 5 dB gain Max over a dipole, if that.
If you make a 60m dipole, and load it to 50 watts out from your rig, mesured
at the power meter next to the rig, feedline losses and transmatch loss will
easily keep you at less than the 50 watts effective radiated power. Or just
back off on your rig to 40 watts.
On some rigs this is an ALC control, on others turning down the mike gain
easily accomplishes this. The duty cycle of SSB rarely will give you the
peak of 50 watts.
