I run Samlex and have had no problems but I have not tried to listen outside
of ham bands.
I don't use my ham transceiver for that, I have a good communications
receiver for SWLing.
I use a tiny 2A linear PS for the RX.

Ah... yes.... and therein lies the rub...."almost no noise" is not as
good a "none." My TT Model 963 switcher produces noticeable noise on
frequencies outside the ham bands.
I did notice TT no longer sells the Astron-made Model 963, and I believe
(i.e., guess) the current model is made by Samlex.
I would probably try a Samlex supply if I wanted another switcher, for the
above, and other reasons.
