The dynamic regulation of the supple is far from being desirable for SSB operation. Remember, it was designed to be used for an FM transmitter, amp, and exciter operation. Yes, there is a small regulated output for the recover and control circuits.

Rick, that is a good idea on using large diodes to drop the excess voltage. On the surplus market, you do see the larger current ratings pretty commonly.
