I am sure Bob Heil gave you that answer because he was just at Dayton
followed by Ham Com in Arlington TX and quite busy.

It is hard to build a new mike cable or an extension. You can use Belden
audio cable from distributors like Allied or Newark, or others, or Canare
wire is top notch and is available in TX from ALTEX Electronics last I knew.

Just inspect the inside of the original cable to get a diagram drawn of each
end and which wire goes to which pin. The Heil wire may have both shield
and aluminum foil. The Belden certainly does in their quality wires.

Canare has a double twisted pair arrangement, and info is on their web site
for various end applications.
