[TenTec] 705 Mike battery

I just realized that my 705 mike does not have a 9v battery in it, I wont admit 
how many years I have been using it,  hi hi can someone tell me what the 9v is 
for, I suspect it has to do with an audio control. no mention of it in the 
manual. tks
