Wouldn't it be nice if someone would build us a transceiver with no dragin'
balls?
How about something simple, reliable that has no components prone to becoming
obsolete?
Unfortunately it would probably cost 50% more than the modern transceivers.
The problem is, you need a double conversion radio and if you work SSB and CW,
you need a minimum of 4 xtal filters. That adds $400 up front.
But give me that with a 48 volt MOSFET PA.
Make the first IF about 5 MHz, 2nd... doesn't matter.
455 kHz would be better but filter costs are high; then 9 MHz.
Oops, doesn't that sound like an Omni VI? ;-)
('cept for the PA)
No it does not need a built in ATU. In the meantime you can buy them (external
ones) everywhere for peanuts.
Make it the size of the OM7.
Give it an analog tunable notch. No need for DSProblems.
BINGO! That's my ride!
Don't hold your breath.
Ain't gonna happen!
