Scrap the test equipment. Just listen to yoursef in another receiver as you
switch the Pro between QSK and Semi bk in. If your dits sound shorter in QSK
mode then it's truncating. My IC-706 chops dits to death in QSK mode but
sounds excellent in semi mode. All Icom needed was some compensation in
their internal keyer but they got hung up on this "ratio" thing (whatever
that is). Running this same test on the TS-870 yields identical results
between QSK and Semi bk-in using either it's internal keyer or an external
keyer.
Strangely, Kenwood seems to care more about keying quality the others.
The only Yaesu I know of that doesn't chop dits is the MP. The 990, 1Kd are
both choppers in QSK.
