Good points made about trying to improve the knowledge base when RF in the
shack issues come up with ANY rig. First of all, list the antenna used,
and the shack location.

Next, list the type of power used, and the source of power.

Include details about type of ground leads, distance from earth, bands
affected, distance from antenna to rig vertically, etc.

Many cases are caused by excessive ground loops. Use of balanced antennas,
(loops or dipoles, doublets, bazookas, etc.) and battery source of power
allows operation without an earth connection as your Field Day test showed.

Earth is mainly for static discharge, it will not protect you from a direct
hit. Ground your tower certainly, but many shack grounds lead to ground
loops. Don't forget the impact of long AC safety ground leads.
