I agree with Steve, it is PTO dirt and/or metal parts that have 
bent or something inside the PTO.  In fact, the mere tension 
adjustment on the very back of the PTO can be responsible for
many strange symptoms.  I went ahead and bought a spare PTO just
to keep in good rebuilt condition for when these problems occur.
You might look for one, rebuild it, and stick it in there, so
you can take your time with this one and get it right.  Good
