HI, Charlie.  The noise blanker is a push/pull switch and is located on the
ALC control.  My 540 is marked " ALC Blanker".  It works very well, but
tends to contribute somewhat to front-end overload from nearby STRONG
stations.  I keep mine on all the time, turning it off when trying to copy
weak stations.  Sometimes this helps, sometimes it doesn't.
