Some of us do both. Many of us live in places where "putting money
into an antenna" means selling our home and buying a new home. That
was my situation on a Chicago city lot. Some of us take our antennas
as far as we can and still want another 15 dB. That's my situation
now -- I live where the noise level is quite low, and I've got a
couple of Beverages, so I can often hear 15-20 dB better than the
other guy can hear me if we're running the same power. To get over
his noise level, I need another 15-20 dB. I might get 3dB from a
better antenna. I can get almost 12 dB from a legal limit amp.
