The 260 Watt Weller should do the trick. I recently bought one for exactly that purpose but haven't had a chance to try it yet. At Field Day a couple of years ago we needed to solder a PL259 and we were only able to do it using the heat from two of the more common 120 Watt Wellers. Lucky we had a pair of them handy!

John....There are as many "brilliant" ideas (My Own Special Technique) as
there are people to provide them!
Some are pretty smart, but most are not. It all comes down to this. Them
connectors are a big chunk of metal...so you gotta use a bunch of heat. The problem with that is the dialectric around the inner conductor doesn't like
that much heat. Those two ideas are hard to manage!
So...you gotta use a bunch of heat....fast, then cool it down.
File the area you are going to solder with one of those mini files, Then
either use a BIG weller gun, or some have success with an iron with a big
tip (won't get the heat sucked out of it as fast) I use a 260 watt Weller
gun. Make sure the tip is tight and tinned, and after the job...dunk it in a
cup of cold water to cool off...then compressed air to dry it out.
NO pencils, circuit board irons, anything from Radio Shack, butane gadgets,
battery operated gadgets....they just don't have the 'umph' to get the job
done.
I've found that straying from the "lot of heat, fast" idea results in a
failed job every time.

....Dave

connectors . Does anyone on the reflector have any tricks for soldering
outside both my irons were not hot enough . Does anyone make a special
