Thanks to everyone who responded to my cries of help last week. Several
said the problem sounded like a bad solder joint and K4CWQ hit it on the
head when he mentioned having a similar problem that turned out to be a bad
speaker. Altimately it turned out to be a bad solder joint on the front of
the speaker. That explains why the audio went out when a strong signal came
in, the vibration of the cone caused an open. Never would have thunk it!.
