According to email I received from Scott Robbins at Ten-Tec, the
bandswitching (particularly the low-pass filters) isn't fast enough for
crossband QSK. You use the "Mute" jack at the back of the Omni for
cross-band CW--just connect a foot switch, pushbutton, or Dr. Frankenstein
knife switch across it. There actually is a brief note in the manual about
this, under a "Cross Band Operation" section a few paragraphs after the
"Split Operation" section.

Shorting the Mute jack line sets up the Xmit band. You'll actually hear
the band switching relays clack, and the display changes to the Xmit
frequency (but the A/B VFO light stays at the receive VFO). Then when you
send CW, the key line is only doing what it usually does. Without the mute
jack, the band switching relays lag behind the keying.
