it to him as a gift).
Back when I was in high-school, I couldn't afford to BUY one, so I made
one. Made an enclosure for a high-power 6" speaker, glued a funnel to it,
stuck a hose on the funnel, and ran the hose up my mic-stand. The hose
extends a few inches past the mic. Plug the speaker into your guitar (or
keyboard, or in my case, bass) amp, turn it up way loud, put your mouth
over the tube. Any articulation you do with your mouth is transferred to
the microphone. Silly gimmick, but it gets the crowd cheering.
A better gimmick... I had one (somewhat fake) amplifier set up with a
little basket inside, with a hot-wire igniter and some old popcorn inside
to catch on fire... putrid smoky-black, with a fair amount of flames.
Before the show, I'd set a CO2 extinguisher on each side of the stage, and
told the stage-techs that they were there 'just in case something went
wrong'. I'd start a solo (usually with the talk-box clone) then I'd light
up the amp. The stage crew would notice it, and come running out,
scared-silly, hosing down my amps. I'd act like I didn't notice it at
all... and leisurely turn-off the fire-basket...
DK :-)
