Actually the relay does switch hot and two relay's in parallel won't
switch close to simultaneous or bounce the same and one will always
close first leaving just one to carry the current.

Vacuum relays depend on a bellows to allow passing motion to the vacuum.
When the bellows leaks the relay no longer works right.
