Well, don't forget that the Scout is an "economy rig". The wiring
can certainly handle more current, but the limitation is no doubt
the jack. I agree, that it is best to put the fuse in the line to
the external device.
There are a few reasons why the external power line would not be
switched. For example, you might want to plug in a 12 V clock
or a small 12 V lamp for Field Day or portable operation.
Again, you can always add an inline switch to the outboard device,
or rewire the Scout power switch or add a relay, so that the external
jack is switched. Just don't exceed the current rating of the Scout's
power switch.
