Thanks for all the replies on this subject, especially those who
correctly pointed out that we see a lot of FT-1000D/FT-1000MP and
Icom 756 on DXpeditions because the manufacturers are willing to loan
out those radios in exchange for the considerable publicity surrounding
a DXpedition.
I just ran across a survey that AC6V put on the Web. Follow this link:
http://ac6v.com/survey.htm
Although not scientific, the survey does give a good sampling of the
radios that 365 DXers use at their own stations.
Combining the FT-1000MP and the newer Mark V, it is the clear leader.
The venerable FT-1000D was a distant second. The Omni VI+ was basically tied
with the FT-990, TS-850/940/570 and the IC-706 and
IC-756PRO, but those radios, as a group, made up a distant third place.
Nevertheless, it's hard to beat the Omni VI+ from the perspective of a
CW operator.
Good reading, though!
