The "pop" can be reduced by judicious use of the RF Gain 
control.   I usually set my RFG so the S Meter is just a little 
bit off the peg.   I can hear any signal that is above the 
atmospheric noise level and the inter element noise on transmit 
is low and easy on the ears.
