It might be safe for the scope, but NOT safe for you, unless it is a 10X 
probe that is rated for 2500 volts. Most small probes should only be 
used for a couple of hundred volts. High voltage scope probes are big 
and look like they are designed for high voltage. They also have labels 
on them that tell you the maximum voltage they are rated for. Pay 
attention to the labels and you should be alright.
