Our long time BBQ cook for FD took a Busman's holiday this year and
joined a CA friend in the mountains above San Jose for FD operations.
With the wind off the ocean, they froze their buns off at 47 degrees or
less. (I think the forecast was for 47, but he insisted it felt colder).
Their operating regime was on batteries, so they had to retreat to a car
and run the engine and heater to warm up every couple of hours, as they
had no heat in the cabin they were using. Since they were CW men,
keying was very difficult by hand.
I think he will be glad to come back to a TX Field Day next year, and
relish the heat of the BBQ grill!
