Rod:
Inspect the battery to make sure it hasn't leaked. The only other thing
that typically goes wrong with Paragons is the PLL Out of Lock
condition. This is fixable, but requires a lot of patience. The VCO
coils may require adjustment due to component aging or you may have to
reflow the solder on both PLL boards, due to the original poor
construction quality. If you get a PLL Out of Lock, observe which bands
and if it goes out of lock at 50 kHz intervals. This will help localize
the problem.

Make sure the memory back up (9 volt battery) clip is not shorted if you have
not replaced the battery. Also check the wire originally twisted into a loop...
if its cut, the rig will transmit almost on any HF frequency.

Subject: [TenTec] Paragon 585
All,
I recently picked up a Paragon at a swap meet. It's really dirty and probably
hasn't been turned on in awhile. Any precautions or suggestions before (and as)
I put power to it and start checking it out? Condition: One small cut out in
the top panel and it has all the filter slots filled. Looks complete and good
otherwise.
Thanks and 73, Rod/w7zrc
