Hi Rick,
Agreed. I am running coax fed antennas here where the tuner is sometimes
needed if I stray too far from its resonant frequency. Also, snow
sometimes affects my 30 meter delta loop and the SWR moves up to around 3 to
4. I have an OMNI VI plus which does not have an internal tuner so the 23
comes in handy, otherwise the internal tuner of the Orion II or OMNI VII
does a fine job. Mostly, I use the 253 on my 80 meter inverted vee in the
phone part of the band. The inverted vee is tuned for the CW section.
I agree with you that it all depends what you are matching.

Jerry, that answer is incomplete.
What were you matching?
Example: My 80m dipole has high SWR in the 75m portion of the band. I
can
use the tuner and match it, running 1.5KW.
BUT if my 80m dipole is feed with openwire and I'm trying to match it on
40m, I'll probably have to cut my power back considerably.
ALL TUNERS WORK LIKE THAT.
IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU ARE MATCHING, GENTLEMEN!

I use the 253 with a Centurion 422b at full KW.....no problem.

Thanks Dave,
That is very good information. It sounds like if we used the 253 tuner
with something
hefty like the Centurion 422, it might not tolerate the high power.
Sounds
like it was
made to use with the solid state amps that put out a little less spark
and
grit!

Brian,
If my memory serves me correctly, the TT 253 was only rated at 1kw
pep and of course that is really dependent upon the load components
that u are trying to match to 50 ohms. The specs for the solid state
amp and the auto tuner are probably available on the web.
