Jerry,

If you have a scope, look at pin 2 of U11 while you turn the rig on.

There should be a reset pulse. This is generated by C31 and R45. If C31 dries out, the pulse may not be strong enough to "kick-start" the audio DSP.

This morning when I turned my Omni-VI, opt 3 on it came up in CW, key
down transmitting. Cycled off and on and the repeat malfunction.
Isolated all connections and problem continued.

Performed basic RESET and transceiver went to 14.000, USB, clock reset
to 12:00. But no apparent audio output. From meter indication I could
see that the receiver was working. Inserted headphones and with volume
advanced full I could must barely perceive stations. BUT none of the
keypad buttons function.

Performed Master RESET and the malfunction remains the same.

Note: If holding down any keypad key during start up you hear full audio
output until you let go that button... then clock begins and audio
becomes muted and no keypad buttons function. Although with headphones
on you can hear a stream of fast pulses when any key is depressed.

VFO functions fine but of course you can't change bands, modes, etc.

Removed the cover and did a slight manipulation of all connections on
the Logic board. No change.

There is a start up initialization sequence. Unless I miss my guess the
malfunction is causing this sequence to not go beyond displaying the and
running the clock.

This is as far as I've gone at present.

This is a very clean Omni-VI, opt 3. No apparent corrosion whatsoever.
Only previous malfunction was a bad MAX232 chip. That was replaced and
transceiver has worked flawlessly till today.

Most certainly the problem is on the Logic Board due to the issues
presented. Beyond that, and before I tear into it.... have you
experienced this error? If so what was the eventual fix?

Jerry, KG6TT
