Page 2-9 of the Corsair II manual clearly explains how the "XTAL" switch
points to the broader three filters of the four in ssb and the narrower
three filters of the four in cw.
I would guess that there's a jumper on the socket so that the receiver will
still function if that slot is selected by the XTAL switch, but it wouldn't
be advisable to intentionally select that slot if it's only jumpered.
