I have the Hercules II and the matching monster power supply. This beast
powers both the Amplifier and the Omni V. Cables and jacks are provided for
each on the power supply. 80 amps are dedicated to the Amp and 20 or so for
the rig. Thus we have a 100 amp supply. When I want to use the rig or
amplifier, I simply flip the approiate power switch on either unit. The
power supply has a built in sensor that detects the increased load and
turns itself on. No off-on switch is needed on the supply. It will run on
either 110vac or 220vac. I recommend 220 otherwise your lights will be
blinking!
Yes this supply is expensive but it is what makes the station so easy to
use. A battery would of course work but it would add extra complexity and a
potential hazard. Yes, it is a lot cheaper.
A friend of mine uses two Astron 50 amp supplies in parallel to run his
Hercules II. This saved him a bundle and of course it works fine. It does
give him a couple of extra switches to flip. I would prefer this to
batteries.
