Well,

I'm very surprised when everybody says :

Well, I'm not using the sweep display, I'm not using the DV memory, I'm not
using the memories, I'm not using the USER parameters, I'm not using the
second receiver, I'm not using the monitor function... I'm not using this
and that !

We couldn't say that these functions are "bells and whistles", these are
just the basic functions of the Orion !

So, if I have to buy an Orion without being allowed to use this function or
that parameter... it's stupid ! Do not put functions on a product if they
don't work... take the William B. Gates example, Windows 95 was full of
features before the final release, as these features weren't so reliable,
they just remove them from the original source code before releasing the
alpha version ! :-)

Of course my Orion was a nice collection of bugs (as someone stated in his
review, so much room in it for a sandwich and a pair of shoes, he forgot to
mention : a lot of room for big malicious insects and gremlins too !) but it
is the same like having a Porsche on which : you can't put the 6th gear, you
can't use the hi-fi system, you have to use the manual gear shift lever
instead of the tiptronic command, you have to go in by the sliding roof
instead of the doors... etc etc.

I prefer to have a Kenwood TS-570DG that works, than an Orion that crashes 5
times a day !

My $0.02

Eric, ON6CV.

Don't hold your breath on ICOM.

My uncle bought a brand new 756 PRO2 and it worked for 5 months before
it died. The old issue of one of the chips burning up is still present
and he made sure the unit he received was right off the factory line
(was only a week or two old).

Too bad you're having such issues with the Orion. I'd love to have one
even if the scope and stuff never worked. I never used it in the
Jupiter anyway so all these extra bells and whistles are no interest to
me. God bless those who use it, it's just not my bag.
