I too am a generally happy owner of an O II, and don't see a really good
reason to trade it for a K3. However, I am a DXer and not a serious
contester (not at this point anyway). Were I a big-time contester I would go
for
the K3 in a minute because of its better sub receiver and its ability to
support CW Skimmer, neither of which do I, as a DXer, really need. The O II
sub receiver is good enough for me and I like its general coverage.
To make the O II match those features of the K3 would require hardware
mods, i.e., an O III or at least an O II Mk2. So, I can see why T-T are
dragging their feet on O II firmware.
That said, I would still encourage T-T to follow through on O II firmware,
if only to keep the customers' good faith. The O II is an excellent
radio. Let's keep it up.
