I'm not sure that this was ever true, but it certainly isn't true now that the 
FCC has 
stopped issuing separate operator and station licenses as they once did. Under 
the 
current scheme, the callsign follows the operator as well as the station.

Those who have commented previously that the rules are really beside the point 
are 
right on the money. The QSL cards and all-time personal achievements are really 
only worth the value you put on them. If making a contact from a contest 
station does 
it for you, fine. Most feel that the satisfaction of doing it from their own 
station is what 
it's all about.
