To all interested,
I had the opportunity to visit a few minutes this evening with
Robin Critchell, WA6CDR, the 160 Meter operator for the DX-pedition.
Total 160 M Qs for the operation numbered a few over 1,200. Average time
per Q for the whole operation was approximately 3 minutes, with some as
long as 30 (yes thirty) minutes. The openings to the west coast averaged
4 to 8 minutes. Only one real good opening to Europe. The VE1ZZ Q was
10 minutes after his sunrise.
The received signal levels seemed to be on the average 20 dB down
from the transmitted signal reports. No explanation. Two 300' Beverages
were in use the last 4 days. Robin had to take them down each morning
and roll up the 300' coax runs as they were installed in a park.
Total stateside Qs was about 20. KV0Y, the 2nd morning of the
contest, was the only Zone 4 Q.
More later when the Holiday weekend is over and he has had time
to recover from the ordeal and jet lag (gain?). Thanks for the
bandwidth. 73 de
