A warm winter and early spring in the Columbia River
Basin means my seasonal Beverages need to come down
soon. In fact if I don't wind them on the spools
pretty soon, they will be wound around a tractor axle!
Last summer, for an "off season" RX antenna I used a
K9AY loop. This time, I'd like to try something
different. Phased flags would be nice but I lack the
un-tilled real estate required for that configuration.
However, a pair of short phased verticals similar to
those described on W8JI's web page would fit nicely.
Has anyone used a similar system and done A/B
comparisons against other small RX antenna systems
such as K9AY, flags or 1/2 to 1 wavelength Beverages?
I'm curious to know how well the verticals perform in
reality vs. computer simulations.
I would not be able to install top hat wires like the
W8JI models, but would have self supporting buggy whip
style elements about 30+ feet long. The only
disadvantage to this approach I can see is a slight
reduction in operational bandwidth. Did I miss
anything? Any hints or tricks?
