Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with a Twin Lead
Marconi using 300 twin lead as described in Bill Orr's "Wire Antennas"
book. For the low end of 160 meters, it uses a twin lead length of 109'
with both leads tied together at the far end and a 17' length of single
conductor wire attached at this junction with the opposite end connected
to an insulator used to support the horizontal portion at the far end.
At the feed line end, one conductor of the twin lead connects to the
center conductor of coax and the other conductor connects to ground and
the radial system.
Orr states this antenna has an impedance close to 50 ohms and should
match coax without the need of a tuner. I have tried building this and
cannot obtain a 50 ohm match and have a lot of reactance using Orr's
measurements.
Thanks,
Garry - WR4R
