Hi Phil - My 72 ft 80 meter vertical (which is also my 160 transmit 
antenna) with top loading resonates at 2.9 MHz. I matched it with a 
fixed series capacitor which goes directly to the feed point.

You will need to determine the capacitor value experimentally or 
calculate it.
