Hi friends,
some of you may remember my introduction recently. Now I actually have a
question. I´ve been a QRPer for more than ten years now and never had a
problem with my 3 watts. Worked pretty good DX recently like KL7, JY, JT,
OD, 5N etc. but not on Topband. I´m only just beginning to get into it and
am preparing for the 'season'. QTH has been secured and I have a pretty
good idea what antennas I´m going to use.
But now to the transceiver. I´m not a very technical person and wouldn´t
want to fuzz with my QRP rig anyway. But it doesn´t give me more than 6
watts on 160. In a short e-mail exchange recently, Jeff K1ZM convinced me
that QRP on 160 isn´t fun unless you have a four square array or something
similar. Now I´m looking for a transceiver that´ll do the trick. FT-101E´s,
TS-830S´s etc. sell for reasonable prices over here at present. I just
wonder how their performance on 160 might be. I used to have an FT-101E
myself, ages ago - but at the time didn´t bother about 160 at all.
I´d like to hear your opinions about rigs of similar vintage, and maybe
about not to complicated mod´s. If I get one of these old battleships, I
might just use it for 160 exclusively, so I wouldn´t mind a few mod´s. Best
thing is, I still have a stack of brand-new 6JS6C´s, 6KD6´s and 6146B´s :-)
Since I use a Collins R-390A for receiving on 160 I´d also like to hear
about stand-alone TX´s...(I was really pleased to see in Jeff´s book, that
even W1BB used these great RX´s).
Looking forward to your suggestions etc.
