I'm a bit late responding, and have seen some of the replies on here.
What I did in similar circumstances was to use a length of plastic
garden waterpipe and feed the wires through it. The stuff on sale in
the UK is pretty tough and once pushed a few inches down under the
gravel, and anchored at each end, has been fine ever since.
