True, there are two types of 7 pin DIN connectors, the other (Kenwood
Xverter) one has a slightly wider spacing at the bottom (missing pin). Being
in a hurry, I modified the "regular" 7 pin connector that can be bought at
Radio Shack by heating up the pins with soldering iron and then slowly
plugging in the connector into the TS930 receptacle (Xverter) and heating it,
and pushing untill it went in with all the pins about even. The plastic that
holds the pins is heat "softable", it gives and lets the pins find the most
comfortable position. Let it cool and enjoy it. Might as well solder the
necessary wires at this time.
Question to TS870S owners: While trying to install International Radio "Plug
in Filters" for 870 I found that their claim that you can plug the filters in
is WROOOONG! There is no room on PC board, they could be only "coaxed in".
Kenwood says "you don't need no stinking filters, DSP does it", but we heard
that before. Another thing I found that my radio sounded kind of basy on SSB.
When i plotted the bandpass curve on existing SSB filter, I found significant
hump in the low end of bandpass, up to about 600 Hz, then it drops and stays
about 30% down. Varying bandwidth just squeezes the crooket curve. Is it just
mine, or anybody else noticed the same effect? ( tune in about S9 +20 CW
signal, turn off AGC and go accross the bandpass, watch the Smeter or attach
AC voltmeter to audio output.)
Otherwise gearing up to fire up in WW on 160 mono, VE1 ?
Anybody knows about Sable Isl. operation, who's going there?
