I'm back on Topband after reinstalling my inverted L and radials for
the season. I've also included the ICE BCB high pass filter.
My configuration is pretty modest, 55' vertical, 5 - 130' radials
several others around 50', no receive ant. Low power only. Clearly need
lots more radials...
In past years I also experienced the "gaggle of voices" (as described in
a previous msg), which must be several AM BCB'ers mixing, especially around
our dawn, but a tone would always be present right at 1830. The ICE BCB
filter has cleared this up as well as noise across the entire band.
This seems to have openned up another entire layer of europeans which I
never heard before.
Last night was especially quiet and after 0500 the band openned big time to
Europe. Two new ones for me. From memory:
G4PQE Wrked around 0200
HB9ATA Not Wrked
G4VXE/C6A Wrked around 0330 - New one
DJ8WL Not wrked
9A2TW Big sig. Not wrked (he was working UA's?)
SV8SZ Heard as early as 0500 (229) by 0545 was 339+ Wrked - New one!
Lots of others I can't remember. Every so often I get a "Noise Event" that
usually lasts no more than 30 seconds, some local electrical interference
which I'll probably never find.
Sort of off the subject: I was listening to the BBC on 5.975 for
awhile and although they were S9+40 on the Inv L there was a strong
interference on them for about 45 minutes. It suddenly stopped around 0400.
I'm pretty sure it was intentional jamming. Did anyone else hear this?
CU in the TEST this weekend,
Ken
