The CQWW-SSB and both types of the ARRL Sweepstakes are in the book for
2010. You will have excellent warm-ups in the forms of the CQWW-CW and the
ARRL-160M to get ready for the 15th running of The Stew Perry TopBand DX
Challenge sponsored by The Boring Amateur Radio Club. 1500Z Dec 18 until
1500Z Dec 19 is the time period you'll have to sluice the TopBand signals
from the ear popping chaff. The Boring Amateur Radio Club does not care
for anarchical radio contests so we have developed a few simple rules to

The Stew Perry TopBand DX Challenge has a history of interested parties
sponsoring plaques for whatever heroic endeavors the sponsor deems worthy.
These plaque sponsors understand that the value of a plaque is not the
paltry sum necessary to put engraved metal upon pretty cellulose. These
plaque sponsors know that encouragement, in even remote categories of radio
competition can add dimensions of enjoyment unknown to some lesser radio
contests. These sponsors are forward thinking, smart, and are typically
better looking than the average amateur radio operator. Listed below are the

If you followed the last epistle's advice you've wired together your
gutters and gotten on the air. You've probably electrocuted the dog or cat
via a downspout but you've found you can work hams on 160M in the states
neighboring your state! If you want to contact further away hams then it is
time to erect that 43' tall birdhouse your spouse will simply adore. Put a
lot of radials down under the mast er...support and be sure to affix some
kind of a non-conductive box on top for our feathered friends. Several Ham
Radio Equipment purveyors have such birdhouse supports complete with coils
and directions and necessary implements of destruction. The Boring Amateur
Radio Club is not responsible for any domestic or homeowner association
situations which might arise from simply trying to be eco-friendly...and
trying to make a few QSOs on 160M.
We also encourage you in improving your Morse Code abilities. The Stew
Perry Contest is a code only contest but you can participate even if your
code is less than satisfactory. The Morse code is one of the few things that
you can do faster and better as you get older unlike many other endeavors.
When the other station is blinding your ears with incomprehensible speed
and your heart rate is 15 times as fast as your code speed simply send QRS
when the silence comes. It's magic but that is what 160M is about!
Start negotiating with the family now for the time free to play in The
Stew. It will be worth the cleaning, affixing fixtures and going to visit
old weird Uncle Joe and Aunt Marge.
The little old plaquemaker has 37 of the 40 2009 plaques finished. They
will be mailed out the week between the CQWW and the ARRL-160 test.
