QSL on retransmission of AM band signals in the NYC tunnels. Last few days I
paid attention to various signals in the am band and it appears that original
signals of stations that are not retransmitted on "tunnel radio" die by the
entrance. 1660 kHz NJ station is not heard in the tunnel. Other stations
normally received in the area are retransmitted and audible in the tunnel.
When relay dies, so do AM signals. Tunnel Radio comes over those stations with
own construction or traffic message and it is done on multiple frequencies. So
much for low band signal penetration. No more CQ 160 from the tunnel!
